Gem3 Web Hosting vs. Brazilian hackers

This morning I got an email from my web hosting guy. I say “web hosting guy” and not “company because that’s the way I feel about my web host. I have been with Gem 3 since 2003 when I registered http://www.Jackcrowne.com any way, back to the email. It seems that the Calendar script I had installed on the site had been compromised by Brazilian hackers. Dave from Gem3 took the liberty of isolating the offending directory, and after a couple emails he is upgrading the PHP on my site.

The service I get from Gem3 has made me a life long customer.

Thank you Dave, Thank you Gem3

Embers

The back story on “Embers”

Tim and I are working on “9 Lives” and I asked for a little help with song ideas. One of the ideas was to write about my relationship with my wife. (Thanks Kath) which got me thinking about how I would categorize that. and the first word that came to mind was “Embers” so that word has been in the back of my mind.

Last week Tim turned me on to an alt tuning for guitar. He handed me his Gibson acoustic. set up in this tuning and the first thing that came out of it in my hands was the root of this song. I played with it for a while and sussed out some structure. Then yesterday, I put words to it and recorded the initial tracks.

The instrument you hear in the background that sounds like a banjo. is actually a stick Dulcimer that I built although I have built 5 of these, this is my first recording with this new instrument.

I have the Initial track uploaded to thesixtyone go have a listen

Lay Offs

Here we go again, another round, another ulcer. 2000 more by the end of summer that’s somewhere in the neighbor hood of 1/4th of Boise Micron. Been through this a few times now and it doesn’t get easier. Some of my friends’ jobs seem safe while others appear to be in certain peril. There will be more detail in a week or so. For now I am just hanging in there… Wish me luck

Hooligans

This weekend at Hooligans, Wow! Was I off my game?! went well enough and there were moments in the show where it felt fresh. But over all I felt like I was pushing through, It felt like work. I know it was just a bad night, not like a major change in the way I feel about doing all this, Still, I expect miore from myself.

Before the show,  I commented I felt un prepaired. I guess I was. Next show I will be ready and tight. I promise

CD Baby Payment

Just got my first Payment from CD Baby. I have made more from CD Sales at live shows but it was interesting to get actual money for digital downloads.

actrafficThis past weekend Tim and me played a gig at Music of the Vine 4 days before the show I sent out a notification by Email to the mailing list telling them about the show on the up comming Saturday(Feb 7th.) At the show we introduced ourselves to everyone individually. and gave each person a little souvineer button with our website URL on it.  I know the numbers are small but the correlation is un deniable self promotion is leading vistors to our band blog.
